Bio: Born in South Africa, Zuberi was force to raise his younger brother, Sekayi, when their parents died of illness. Zuberi when to work in the mines for pay that was barely enough to feed one, let alone both of them. Living in squalor and filth, they were discovered by missionaries and taken to a church-run orphanage. Rarely able to place older siblings in the same household, their story reached Alex and Emily via the internet, and they quickly began the process to adopt them. By the time the adoption was finalized, Zuberi could speak broken English. He transitioned smoothly into American life, grateful for a large family, but he never forgot the horrors of the extreme poverty and days of going without food so Sekayi could eat. He became as protective of all his adoptive siblings as he was Sekayi, and was never sky around his parents’ friends or his ‘cousins’. He and Emma became very close almost immediately. In middle and high school, he took to playing sports: baseball, basketball, track. He and Parker Meyers took karate and kickboxing classes together as Zuberi toyed with the idea of being an Ultimate Fighter.
