Bio:     Li-hua’s story is not nearly as physically tragic as it is emotionally so.  Though she remembers none of it, Emily holds the story very dear to her heart because to her, what happened to Li is the epitome of why they set out to adopt these children in the first place.  Li was born to a young Japanese couple who were not married.  Her father was from the upper class, an extremely wealthy family.  When he met and fell in love with Li-hua’s biological mother, their love was forbidden by his parents because she was not from the same ‘class’ as he was.  Her family had no money.  The mother worked two jobs and the father worked two jobs and whatever odd job he could pick up just to make ends meet.  Her family was in no way good enough  for his family to approve of any kind of marriage.

Her parents did not agree with the fact that his family were not going to pay for anything pertaining to the baby and threatened to take the pregnancy public, thereby destroying his reputation.  So Li-hua’s money took the money and attempted to ran, but was forced to return when she was nine months pregnancy, starving, and needing help.  She strikes up a bargain with the father of the father of her baby and they put the baby up for adoption just after Li-hua is born.

Guardian Angels called Emily about the adoption and together, she, Alex and Meijing go to Japan to adopt Li-hua.
